Oil-ozokerite pit wells

This method of oil and ozokerite production was described by famous Ukrainian writers – Ivan Franko (1856-1916) and Stefan Kovaliv (1848-1920).

Historical information about the object

Oil and ozokerite mines (dug pit wells) – the so-called “duchky” were used for the production of oil and ozokerite with buckets operated from 1853 to 1930. Their total number in Borislav in 1873 was more than 12,000, some of them reached depths of more than 100 m.
